iPhone App for indicating gear, rpm, etc etc?

New postby CMM83 on 18.06.2009, 15:46

I'm more of a mechanical/hardware guy so I don't know how possible this is, but it would be cool if one could use an iPhone/ipod touch to if not control, atleast display game information?

Does this sound interesting to anyone else?

It should be possible to set up an application to listen on TCP connection or something to a host running on the same computer as x-sim or whatever that listens for the game variables to display

Send apple an email about such software:) If you're lucky you will be able to buy this app from their store for who knows how much... It would be possible on a hacked iphone with a win based op system but apple is very strict about not letting third parties and programmers get into their os...

x-plane remote is an app in apple store that can be used as a controller (joystick) but more importantly for me it is also a display of gauges, maps, etc
So there are a few plugins for race sims now we just need some one to export that data to the iphone as this app does.

there is also a app called revs that reads and displays real time obd II data on the iphone, so it can be done...we(I) just need some tech savvy dude to code it up and make a graphic display to install on iphone either via an official app or via jailbreak, I'll even pay for it...
The x-plane remote is $5 I think and the rev is about the same so if some one wants to earn a bit I am thinking I wouldn't be the only one interested.
here is a pic to work off

Hi,

i don´t see any useful reason to use a iphone as gadget display but anyhow cool idea, even when it is not more than a techdemo and a "when it´s possible we make it" application :)

In the past i often used my old ipod touch with a VNC client installed to control my PC from away from home. It should be possible to use VNC and x-sim´s virtual gauge function as well ;) That needs no programming or anything else. Just a VNC server on the profiler pc and the vnc client for the iphone.

I used the for free app VNsea http://mac.softpedia.com/get/iPhone-App ... Nsea.shtml

If you look at the motec pic I posted above on a iphone or ipod and you will see it is a very good size for simple data read out..rpm shift light, and gear indicator

Here is where it will sit in my sim

Samsung have a very cool 7" USB monitor called the U70. You can get them on ebay for around $80 USD. Would do the job with no programming, but of course not wireless.

I just bought 4 to put in my f-16 simpit. If i ever build it that is ;)
