X-Sim Wish List

Postby bvillersjr on 08.01.2011, 13:08

Please take a moment to offer up your wish list for X-Sim. Anything goes.

One item that I've seen somewhat frequently is NetKar game support.

Aside from game plugins, are there any other devices or features that you would like to see?

Only wishes concerning the UI:

- More simple to use / more easy to understand for beginners.

- Optimized for smaller LCD. Most of us have small profiler screens with only 800*600 or 1024* 768 (cheap touchscreens) Make x-sim fitting to that resolutions and perhaps the operation fields and buttons bigger for touch use.

Good idea! Also a extra big button for turning on/off different axis, for people with extra hardware like buttkickers and blower fans.

Gauge dashboard system port to smartphones or tablets (you can get very cheap 7" android tablet around 100$ that is half the price of USB monitors).

I wish more member contributions ;D

We have currently over 3000 members, and just a handfull of people are helping others and/or contributing so far. Quite unpleasant ratio imho.

Why not writing a tutorial by yourselves, instead of requesting it from others over and over.
It think there are enough people available to help if someone is willing to start.

Would be nice if people would integrate their simulator/hardware/peripheral projects as a tutorial in the X-Sim Wiki as well.

Don't forget that X-Sim is a non-commercial hobbyist project, and reliant on member contributions.

Suggestions for improvment are always good. Communities don't stand the test of time without an understanding of their users. That being said, if you are making a suggestion that you have the ability to implement, then implement it! :)

I think this is the big misunderstanding. There seems to be a belief that many users have the knowledge to contribute this documentation. I do not believe that is true. I think only a small number of users understand X-Sim welll enough to contribute documentation. The remainder are begging for documentation.

I spend as much time on this as I can. I created the manual for the new sender. I created an additional advanced manual for the PlugFree portion of the new sender. These are not released yet because PlugFree is not released yet.

Work is in progress on a Beginners Guide to X-Sim but this is a VERY lengthy topic and takes alot of time.

The only thing remaining is a guide to creating motion profiles and I do not think this would be an easy manual to understand. Instead I am building a wizard to help new users create motion profiles. I think that this will be more effective than a document because they can learn by example and by feel rather than by words alone.

Once these tasks are done, what other work remains for the community to do? Maybe we should make a list?

With regard to my motive, it's simple, I have both personal and professional reasons for wanting X-Sim to be successful.

I am a rookie in most parts of making a sim, so my contributions may be limited now. One thing is for shure: I will make a detailed turtorial of all I do as soon as I feel som force feedback in my chair! I believe all request of help developing any part of x-sim and simulators should be posted or have a visible link on main page, because if you have a break from the forum some veeks, you miss a lot! I guess the wish list is about both forum and software?
