Hi Guys,

After NuMcA and SimonME46 had made speed controlled fans i wanted them also on my sim.
With the help of member Frakk i am now testing the fans and they work flawlessly with X-Sim !

Parts used:

- Rechargeable-Sealed-Lead-Acid-Battery-6V-4AH witch is powered with a 7V-2A-AC-DC-Power-AC-adapter.
- Pololu Micro Maestro 6-Channel USB Servo Controller (Assembled)
- ATC fuses+holders, Deans and Bullet connectors
- TURNIGY Basic 25A and a 40A Speed Controller ESC (electronic speed controller)
- 2x70mm Duct Fan + 3000KV Motor for lipo RC Jet EDF plane (Fans for radio controlled planes)

When i recieved the hardware from Frakk i made a safety feature on the fans with aluminum tubes and a strong bug-net (believe me, you do NOT want rubble to get in those things, they can rev up to 18000RPM at full power!):

After this the setup with X-Sim was easy, also the games i tested where Codies games, and they output a high resolution so the airflow is controlled very well (so the 255 is now 8500):

Here's a short video of the result till now, The air flow power usage of the fans is ONLY 30%



The noise is still a problem, when i go higher then 50% its too loud. Still have to think of something for that. already reduced some by using tubes and placing the fans futher away.

What are the overall cost for the system? And why are you using to different speed controller (for testing purposes?)?

The over all cost is not the cheapest, but it is definitely easy to set up and it has more than enough power for anyone, even a single fan setup.

Please note that any of these components can be substituted with others to suite local markets and availability.

Over all cost of the 2 fan system is ~200USD with everything shipped separately, depending on the parts used.


Why 2 speed controller? 1 motor needs 1 speed controller. 2 motors can be set up for sidewinds/differential airflow, and also distribute the wind more evenly.

Two things to realize in the near Future. With that I am not sure, where to put the tubes. With the triplescreen setup you can only guide the wind from the top or the bottom of the TVs

One thing I wanted to add is the air guided out of the outlet. Like the rudder on a model plane steered with an RC servo. So you could realize direction changes of the wind while cornering.

I like the idea of a rotating platform.

really great work!

I have one question : I own the Fanatec CSP Pedals, there is a build-in vibration Motor on the Brake Pedale . But it only works in combination with the fanatec wheel and only with Rfactor.
So, ist it possible to use your setup to make the Abs vibration get working with x-sim?
The motor is USB powered, should i use a battery ?
The Speed controller will work with 5V?

I have very low electronic and coding skills!

I don't think if you guide the air like you mentioned will make much difference, and it would minimize air flow. air is not really that precise...You can better mix the fans in direction for different left/right airflow for sidewinds in the profiler.
Oh and if you place the tubes around the height of your dash/wheel and point them up a bit like i did, you will get enough air in your face
